Verified!!! - Two Winters of Use Later...
[UPDATE to my Preliminary review below]....These are a *verified* good purchase in my books. I hike about 3-days a week all winter, 5-10 km at a time, I am not a casual user. Used two winters now, mud, rocky river bed trails, ice/snow covered trails, salty parking lots, not a hint of rust and only minor wear on the points that has zero effect on performance. No bending of the spikes. The rubber is still in great shape. The eyelets show no signs of pull-out. I can still traverse 30deg shear ice, no issues. I bought another pair, these are now my back-up pair (boy scout motto). Added new pictures as verification after two years of good winter/spring use.-------------------PERFORMANCE: I have put on about 15km [10 miles] in two totally different conditions. First was forest trail that had frozen bare ground, very compacted snow and clear shear ice on hilly terrain. Without a doubt, very solid traction, there was no hint of slippage even on 30deg ice. Second was mixed conditions, no ice but loose compacted snow and also zero compacted powder about 10in deep. In these conditions they don't prevent slipping but almost act like boat paddles a little. They help to move you along. Now, on hard pavement, they are not comfortable. I did not see any damage to the spikes but they not are meant for long miles on pavement. If you need slip and fall protection taking out the garbage or are an urban postman, these are not for you. Studded (vs spike) ones would be better for this. Once on soft pack they are quite comfortable.SIZING and FIT: These are my first set of traction products. This product in men's range from 7-9 (L) then 8.5-13 (XL). I wear a 9.5 (wide) hiking boot (Merrell), not one of these giant snow boots. I took a chance and ordered the smaller 7-9 size thinking, if they are good for a 9 'giant' boot, then my 9.5 smaller hikers will be nice and snug. I think I made the right decision. I have seen others on the trail where the chains are flopping around. So, if you are in a transition size, think about the type of boot too. If you wear a 10 or larger hike boot, get the XL. If you are putting these on high-heels, then think about under-sizing. If the XL will fit a 13 "snow" boot, they would be big on my smaller feet and shoe type.DURABILITY: as mentioned, I have walked some pavement, I do not see any damage to the spikes or any bending. Only one season thus far and 15km, cannot speak to multi-year use bur so far so good.Overall very happy.

I don't usually put much value in reviews but having read the good reviews on these spikes, I bought a set. Well, as it turns out, these spikes exceeded my expectations. The fit guide was spot on, they didn't move around while walking and showed next to no wear despite being put through the wringer. They fit perfectly on my boots and worked exactly as you would expect, giving great traction walking on ice and snow while climbing and descending small slopes. Two thumbs up for this product.

These are by far the best snow cleats I've ever tried!! Perfect for winter in Alberta where we get freeze and thaw cycles throughout the Fall and Winter months. They're reasonably easy to put on and take of, are far more durable, and stable to walk on than any other product I've tried before. I highly recommend this product to anyone living in areas prone to ice and snow.

I was really enjoying these boot spikes until the clasps on the back heel of them broke. Before this happened, I would have given these 5 stars. They were great and super reliable. I walk my 60bls dog on pure ice and I am not afraid of falling. However, now the clasps have undone and they don't work as well. And I am unable to put them back together.

Have run many hundreds of km in the winter with these, in 10-20 km sessions. Ice, snow, packed snow, dry pavement, concrete, gravel.... I've done it all in these on the Canadian Prairies, in temperatures down to -40C actual / -68C wind chill. Never once did I feel like my footing was uncertain. After maybe 200-300 km, especially if you run on pavement, the cleat tips get flattened and don't bite into the ice quite like new, so you'll either have to sharpen them, or get a new pair. Stainless steel cleats and chains, so fairly hard long-wearing material, and snow doesn't stick to them (ice might form on the metal if you stand around alot, I suppose; I've never had that happen because I'm always moving).

What I like best, other than not slipping, is the placement of the spikes under your foot. They are in just the right places, on inside and outside of your foot, so that your foot naturally lands flat on the ground. Perfect for running. You never feel like you're about to roll off them or twist an ankle. This allows me to run comfortably with a relaxed foot.

I slightly modified mine by adding a couple links of small chain to the chains that go around the front sides of the shoe, just so the tension there wouldn't pinch my toes. But then my feet are 13.5EEE, which is bigger than these are rated for. Check your local hardware store for small chain like they use for curtains etc. Just a minor modification with a needlenose pliers.

It's best to size up, so I would fit a M but because hiking shoes are typically bigger than regular shoes, I decided on a L and it fit perfectly.
I did a mountain hike with compacted snow and ice, there was no slipping, the spikes worked great!

These crampons are good value and were perfect on the two hikes that I’ve done with them so far. I didn't want to spend 3 times more on the big K brand of microspikes. A recent 10 km hike was on a very popular trail where the snow had thawed, then frozen over so the entire trail was bumpy and rough from icy footprints. These crampons did not fail me on this rough terrain. Another member of my hiking group had her big K microspikes break on this hike, so a high price is no guarantee that it won’t break. To be fair, it looked like her big K spikes were probably a size too big because the chains were dangling and got caught on something. There were a surprising number of people in my group wearing crampons with chains that dangled. If the crampons are too big there is greater opportunity for dangling chains to get caught in something or twist under your foot when your heel strikes the ground, increasing the chance of breakage. Properly sized crampons are not always easy to put on or take off, but avoid the temptation to size up. The proper size will hit the ground with the spikes pointing firmly downwards into the ice as they are meant to do, which should reduce the chance of breakage. I have 3 different pairs of ladies size 8 hiking boots. Size M fits them all perfectly, though I do need to use both hands to really stretch them to fit.

I ordered these cleats after my last hike on ice nearly ended with me sliding down a hill and off a ledge. Fast forward a couple of weeks and I was back on the same trails to give them a test.
The cleats fit comfortably and snugly over my hiking boots. Once I figured out how to attach the Velcro strap, they were very secure. My only complaint came from when wet snow and leaves would occasionally create a snowball under my heal, but this was easily cleared by scuffing my heel.
The cleats provided secure traction on ice, snow and greasy wet clay. I've never had more confidence while hiking both uphill and down in these conditions. They're not too heavy, so they will become a permanent addition to my pack.
